Olympic Winter Games | Countdown Begins for PyeongChang 2018

The XXII Winter Olympics will be held in the city of Pyeongchang in the Gangwon Province of South Korea. To mark 365 days before the event, the city hosted guests and athletes from all around the world at a "one year to go ceremony" held at the Gangneung Hockey Centre. It was a spectacular night and it gave us a taste of what the real event will look like. I am already excited for it.

1st ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL, ABUJA

How was your weekend?

Mine was uneventful. I was meant to go to a fair today but last minute errands came up and I had to cancel.

The saving grace for meafter my resolution to have fun and go out more this summer— is that I have 4 more events in my July calendar that I can attend plus fun activities at work this month.

Which brings me to the title of this post!

10 Asian countries who make up the Asian committee in Abuja are hosting the first ever week-long film festival showcasing blockbusters from each country.

The event is going to be taken place at the China Cultural Centre in Wuse from 3rd - 8th July and all the films are free entry. Yay!

On the first day of the festival, there is an opening ceremony which is by invitation only, but afterwards the movie screening has free admission. So drag your friends and family and enjoy a round-trip across Asian Cinema from the East to the South and in-between.

P.S: you may also get the chance to try out their cuisines ;)

Here is a film Schedule for each day.

So tell me, which movie catches your fancy? Who are you planning on taking, a Date? Mum? Dad? Friend? or making it a siblings affair?

To find out about the synopsis of the film, check out the Korean Cultural Centre Website

KOREAN CULTURE | How Seollal [설날] is performed

As promised in my New year update post, I said I was going to write about how Seollal is celebrated.

새해  많이 받으세요 = Please receive a lot of luck or blessings in the New Year

Seollal~설날 is the most celebrated holiday in South Korea, the second being Chuseok
추석which is the harvest festival. Seollal is not only a celebration of the coming in of a new year but an opportunity for families to come together from far and near, catch up with each other and enjoy sumptuous meals and activities. It is also a time to pay respects to ancestors and visit their grave sites.

새해~Saehae is one of the words that means ‘new year‘, 복~Bok means ‘luck’, and 많이~Maani means ‘many’ or ‘lots of’, 받으세요~Badeuseyo is the honorific way of saying 받다~Badda, meaning ‘to receive’. Thus, 새해 복 많이 받으세요 means Please receive lots of luck this year.
