Motivational Monday: Of Maya Angelou and Mukhtar Mai.

Today's Motivational Monday is inspired by the words of one phenomenal woman and the actions of another phenomenal woman.

Who knew that when Maya was writing these words she would be describing the courageous Pakistani woman Mukhtar Mai, whom albeit being powerless and an illiterate, brought hope to the fight against women violence in Pakistan.

Within these sentences,

"I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it"

lies the story of Mai's journey to regain her honour in the face of great injustice, barbarous traditions and what is dubbed as 'A man's world'!!
She didn't come out of her ordeal the victim her rapists expected but a courageous and fearless warrior against the social injustice of her land...

I just finished reading her book recounting what happened to her and giving us a look into the world of "ancient tribal justice, rampant illiteracy, poverty, and economic and sexual bondage".

Her story motivated as well as inspired me.

We experience a lot of things as we go through life and it goes without saying that these experiences shape the people we become. However, not all of us are lucky enough to go through life without great hurdles. Cruel things happen to some of us and we wonder sometimes at what the point to life is, or we blame ourselves for things that aren't necessarily our faults.

I am here today to remind you that although you might not always see a rainbow after the storm, it usually is just round the corner. Or you might be looking at the wrong places. Or even just widening the scope of your sight may reveal the spectacular arch of colours.

Shit happens, we just have to find the strength within us to move past it.
Don't let a single mistake (either yours or of others) shape your life. No matter how hard it might be at the time (and BTW, it gets easier), learn to move past it. Your strength will be measured by how you deal with these situations.

You can allow the experience to change you (make you stronger, more compassionate, more courageous), but darling do not let it consume you with unnecessary darkness (hatred, anger).
That only fuels the ego of your perpetrator.

I tell you, there are people out there who set out to belittle you or mess with your head. But they don't have the power unless you give it to them. You control your destiny, so the moment you hand the reigns to someone else, you give them the power to determine the course of your life.

We don't want that now, do we?

So gear up darling, I am telling you today, no matter how great the storm is, or how disastrous, so long as you keep looking and believing, there will always, always, be a rainbow around the corner.

HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEK GUYS.

with love,

meera
